Chapter 10: Advice!

This really wasn't what I expected to happen in my life...this wasn't exactly something I could have predicted...

And yet, the world never bends to what humans expect. So day folded into day, time passed on...

And as the sun rose and set, as I passed that time at Sanguis Ecclesia, the vampire church, I found myself not really paying attention to the passage of time. Honestly, I didn't realize how quickly these days were passing me by...

But it was soon weeks that I'd lived in the guest quarters in the church. And, trust me, I know this is gonna sound like one big cliché, but the reason I didn't notice the passage of time?

It was all because of her.

Well. That's both true and false. I should clarify.

It hardly seemed like much time was passing at all because of how incredibly frustrating life was Nova with.

That morning started just like all the other mornings, so let me tell you how it went:

I woke up. I stared at the ceiling with a sigh, feeling my pup grumble on top of my feet as I shifted my weight on the mattress. I turned onto my side to take in Nova.

Nova had, over the days, gradually shifted her sleeping position from propped up in the doorway like a medieval sentry, to lying prone on the floor in the sleeping bag. Overtures had been made by Jax that Nova sleeping on the floor night after night was inhumane and cruel, and that she'd set about trying to find a trundle bed or air mattress for her, but Nova had made some noises about how we were already putting out the congregation at Sanguis Ecclesia, and she “wouldn't hear of it.” She'd also told Jax—practically convincingly—that she didn't mind sleeping on the floor, didn't really feel the hardness of the floor, actually kind of liked it because of the whole werewolf thing...

This is where I called bullshit. My entire family was werewolves, remember, and let me tell you: they loved their beds just as much as humans, thanks.

Nova was just being noble and self-sacrificing in her own quiet way...not that Nova was quiet. She wasn't.

But she did good things quietly. She did noble things quietly.

It was unexpected.

It was...nice.

Anyway, Nova was lying on the floor on her back, fast asleep. Most folks (including yours truly) don't look that put together when they sleep...but Nova did. She was currently lying on her back, an arm pillowed beneath her head, her shining brunette hair spread beneath her head and around it a bit like a halo. Her curving chest rose and fell easily, slowly, rhythmically. She was wearing one of her tank tops and a pair of gym shorts under the sleeping bag.

I watched her for a moment, watched that rhythmic rise and fall of her chest. She looked relaxed.

Almost, but not quite, soft.

The thing was, I knew...there was softness to Nova.

Especially where it concerned me.

I was sitting up on my elbow, and as I considered her, as I felt a flush in my cheeks rising just from looking at her.
